2018 ELECTION TIMETABLE AND GUIDELINES FOR NOMINATION TO ELECTIVE POSITIONS TO GOVERNING COUNCIL
The IEC announces the 2018 election timetable and guidelines.
GOVERNING COUNCIL OFFICES OPEN TO BE CONTESTED FOR
1. THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT
2. THE NATIONAL 1ST VICE-PRESIDENT
3. THE NATIONAL 2ND VICE-PRESIDENT
4. THE NATIONAL SECRETARY
5. THE ASSISTANT NATIONAL SECRETARY
6. THE NATIONAL TREASURER
7. CHAIRMAN, BODY OF FELLOWS
8. CHAIRMAN, STRATEGIC SYNERGY GROUP (the elected Governing Council is to fill the vacancy)
1. NOMINATION Any member of the Institute who is financially up to date, being in the grades of Full Member, and Fellow of the Institute is qualified to contest for the Elections provided that no member shall be eligible for election into the Governing Council of the Institute or a Chairperson of any of its State Chapters:-
a) If he/she holds a political party office or elected or an office holder in any registered political party in Nigeria
b) If such a member does not have a minimum of at least 5 years proven practice in Strategic Management
c) If such a member is not up to 30 years of age
d) If he/she has been adjudged bankrupt
e) If he/she has been indicted by any Court of Competent Jurisdiction in Nigeria or elsewhere or any Administrative Board of Enquiry on offences dealing with dishonesty, misappropriation of Public Funds or abuse of Office
f) If he/she is not a Citizen of Nigeria
g) Any member wishing to nominate a member or members for election to the Council shall notify the Chairman, IEC in writing accompanied by the nominees consent in writing of his intention to do so in accordance to the election timetable
h) No member shall be allowed to nominate himself/herself as a candidate for election.
i) No candidate shall be allowed to contest for two posts simultaneously in any election
j) Each candidate for election shall be sponsored by at least: seven (7) members from seven (7) different State Chapters for the Post of the President and five (5) for other positions. Sponsors must be in good financial standing with the Institute
j) Aspirants should download election nomination forms from the Institute website and submit same electronically to iec.ismng@gmail.com
k) Nomination forms for National President is N25, 000 only while nomination forms for other offices is N15, 000 only.
l) Receipt of nomination forms closes at midnight on Thursday June 14 2018.
2. SCREENING All nominated candidates shall be duly screened in accordance with Institutes Constitution, Electoral Guidelines, rules and regulations developed by the IEC based on the information contained in the Nomination Form. All screened candidates shall be informed in writing of the screening results.
3. POST SCREENING Appeals arising from the screening exercise shall be received and dealt with within the specified period on the election timetable. Decisions on the appeal will also be communicated to appellants and there shall be no further appeal thereafter. A list of eligible contestants will be printed on leaflets.
4. VOTER EDUCATION The IEC shall embark on Voter Education
5. CANVASSING FOR VOTES Contestants shall canvass for votes within the time provided on the timetable. The contestants shall not canvass for votes by the use of printed News Papers/national dailies, TV/Radio, Social Media (Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn) or any other general public electronic media. Contestants may however produce and circulate flyer among members only. Contestants may also use WhatsApp platforms of the Institute only. Candidate and supporters should be please take note and be guided. If they do, they shall be disqualified. The IEC shall compile and publish accurate information on the personal profile of each contestant.
6. MODE OF ELECTION i. Elections shall be by Open Ballot System. ii. To be eligible to vote, a member must be clarified to be in good financial standing with his/her name duly entered in the voters register.
7). Noncompliance with any of the conditions above shall invalidate the nomination
